AUSTIN - State Sen. Kip Averitt (R-Waco) received the Children’s Advocacy Centers of Texas (CACTX) Legislative Excellence Award. Averitt, who has been long-time advocate of the centers’ unique approach to protecting children while aggressively pursuing and prosecuting child abusers, was one of only two legislators recognized for their 80th Session efforts on the centers’ behalf.

“Senator Averitt has continually demonstrated his commitment and dedication to helping abused children through support of legislative initiatives that encourage a team approach to investigation, prosecution and the provision of vital victim services,” said CACTX Executive Director Cathy Crabtree. “He has been a champion of the CAC movement in his district and across the entire state.”

“While I am thankful that you have chosen to honor me for my work during the 80th Session,” Averitt said while addressing attendees at the CACTX Legislative Excellence Awards Luncheon, “the truth is that you and your peers are doing this work everyday, and it is I who should be recognizing your hard work and thanking you for your efforts.”

“I have always appreciated Senator Averitt’s interest and compassion for what the CAC’s provide for the child abuse victims and their non-offending family members in Texas,” said John Wyckoff, executive director of the Ellis County Children’s Advocacy Center. “Senator Averitt’s continued support of the CAC’s only futhers our commitment to helping these child victims as much as we can. We all know he’s there not only for the children, but for us.”
