The Midlothian Lady Panthers are off to a perfect start in District 14-5A after wins against Waco University and Cleburne.

Midlothian opened the district schedule with a quick three-set sweep at home against Waco University, 25-13-25-17, 25-20.

Samantha Rodgers led the Lady Panthers with nine kills on 17 attempts, while Kaylie Vasil and Camryn Hill each terminated five points.

Sophomore setter Aryn Walton led the team with 19 assists. Maddie Smith and Kelby Buchanan each recorded a pair of aces and 10 digs.

The second district win for the Lady Panthers was not quite as easy, but Midlothian battled tough for the four-set win on the road against Cleburne, 25-16, 19-25, 25-21, 25-21.

Rodgers again led the Lady Panthers with 18 kills, but this time it was junior outside hitter Sklor Lewis who stepped up in support with 14 kills. Kaylie Vasil added eight kills.

Four Lady Panthers recorded double-digit digs during the win, led by the 30 saved by Buchanan. She was followed by Rodgers (23), Walton (12) and Smith (10).

Walton, who tallied a team-high 29 assists, also led the team with three aces from the service line and matched the 19 service points posted by Smith.

Aliyah Muhammad led the team with four blocks.

The victories moved their season record to 18-9 with their next match not played until Tuesday, Sept. 18 at home against Joshua. First serve is at 6:30 p.m.
