4. Though Waxahachie football plays Thursday night, there are still two options for high-quality sporting events to attend Friday.

The first is the long-awaited return home for the No. 11 (28-4) Waxahachie Lady Indians volleyball team, who have not played inside the friendly confines of Mike Turner Gymnasium on the campus of the new high school since sweeping Red Oak on Aug. 13. The match starts at 6 p.m.

The second opportunity to watch local talent on display will require a short drive into the heart of Dallas to watch Jalen Reagor, Kennedy Snell and the TCU Horned Frogs take on Southern Methodist University at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and the stadium is located at 5800 Ownby Dr. in Dallas.

Tickets are still available on most major ticketing apps and TicketMaster.

TCU leads the all-time series 50-40-7 and won last year's contest 56-36.

The game will be aired on ESPN2, as well as on radio stations WBAP 820 AM, KTCU 88.7 FM and SiriusXM 84.

Of course, college football moves into week two Saturday and the NFL kicks off Sunday. Happy footballing! — Travis M. Smith

5. Sunday is Grandparents Day, a day to celebrate the grandparents in your life. If they live nearby, go for a visit and spend some quality time with them. If they’re far away, make a special card for them and plan a special Skype call on Sunday.
