The Waxahachie Indian and Lady Indian tennis teams opened their season this week with a pair of wins against Sulphur Springs and Arlington. Both victories also came on the new home courts for WHS tennis at the newly constructed high school.
On Tuesday against Sulphur Springs, Waxahachie picked up the 11-8 win thanks to winning four-of-seven doubles matches and 7-out-of-the-12 singles contests.
Ashton Jenkins, Thaddeus Horton and Sofia Schoonveld all picked up two wins, each, on the afternoon.
The team returned to action Thursday afternoon at home against Arlington where Tatianna Reeder-Sanchez, Landri Kirk, Kaleigh Smith, Sofia Schoonveld, Shay Ogletree, Ashton Jenkins and Brayden Moore all picked up two points each in the 12-6 victory.
The Tribe closed out the win by notching victories in four of the seven doubles matches to begin the contest. They won nine of the final 13 matches played.
Waxahachie will now travel to Rowlett for a 3 p.m. first serve Tuesday. The Tribe returns home Thursday, Aug. 16 to host North Forney at 9 a.m.
