DALLAS

EY, formerly Ernst & Young, announced that Cade Griffis, founder and CEO of D-BAT, is a finalist for the Entrepreneur of the Year award in the Southwest region.

According to the official announcement, the awards program recognizes entrepreneurs who excel in areas such as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. Griffis was selected as a finalist by a panel of independent judges. Award winners will be announced at a special gala on Saturday, June 23 at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas.

“This is a tremendous honor to be an EY Finalist in the Entrepreneur of the Year program,” stated Griffis in an EY-issued press release. “We are very proud of our team at D-BAT and the positive impact we are having on youth baseball and softball, not only in the United States but overseas as well. We know how competitive the business atmosphere is in the Southwest, and we are thrilled to be included in this amazing group of finalists.”

D-BAT was founded in 1998 by Cade and Kyle Griffis and Craig Penfold. The baseball training program is listed as a $30 million company with 52 academies across the US and 16 more under construction — 10 of which are scheduled to open in China.

One of the newest D-BAT facilities is currently under construction in Waxahachie. The academy will be located about one mile south of Saddlebrook Estates or four miles south of ShowBiz Cinemas along US Highway 287.

It is tentatively scheduled to open Aug. 1.

Now in its 32nd year, EY has expanded to recognize business leaders in more than 145 cities and more than 60 countries throughout the world. Regional award winners are eligible for consideration for the Entrepreneur of the Year national awards. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the Entrepreneur of the Year national overall award winner, will be announced at the Entrepreneur of the Year national awards gala Nov. 10 in Palm Springs, California.

The awards are the culminating event of the Strategic Growth Forum, a gathering of high-growth, market-leading companies. The national winner then moves on to compete for the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year award in Monaco in June 2019.
