The Maypearl Police Department is still investigating events that surround an altercation that led to one person being cut by a knife Sunday afternoon.
Police arrested Adrian Munguia in connection with the case on the charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Bowers Street to a call of shots fired.
“The story was it involved some type of incident between Mr. Munguia and the victim. There was a fistfight. Allegedly, the victim was also stabbed or sliced on the ear, and the suspect had a weapon,” Norton said. “According to the victim, the suspect fired a shot in the direction of the victim. According to Mr. Munguia, he never fired a weapon. He gave it to his wife, and his wife took it back into the house.”
Norton stated police found both a live round and spent cartridge in the middle of the road. Based on evidence and statements, police then arrested Munguia.
“There were no independent witnesses,” Norton said. “There were statements from the victim and another person that was there with the victim.”
Munguia is no longer listed as an inmate on the Wayne McCollum Detention Center website. The case remains under investigation by the Maypearl Police Department at this time.
