North Hawkins Street is about to get a facelift after the Waxahachie City Council awarded the bid of $1,019,437.41 to McMahon Contracting at its Monday night meeting.
The work will include the installation of new curbs, gutters, sidewalks, streetlights, utilities, and pavement. Construction will take place along North Hawkins Street from West Park Avenue to McMillan Street.
Tommy Ludwig, executive director of development services, stated the street would undergo a full corridor rehabilitation. He noted the work has been needed for some time.
“The existing pavement for North Hawkins was installed in 1952 and last scarified in 1995,” Ludwig said. “The water and the wastewater lines have been in service prior to 1947.”
Ludwig added the projects would be funded through a certificate of obligations bonds and are anticipated to sold before the end of this fiscal year.
According to its website, some of the services McMahon Contracting provides include excavation and stabilization, general contracting, utilities, structures, paving, and restoration.
