Rowena Appleton Taylor, 69, passed away on March 11, 2018 in Atlanta, GA with her family by her side. She was born in Waxahachie, TX, and lived the majority of her life in TX. In 1966 she graduated from WISD where she enjoyed being captain of the drill team. She married Ken Cope in 1967 and they had two daughters, Kristi and Kathy. Rowena married Bob Taylor in 1986 and eventually moved to New Market, AL, where she retired from the Madison County Water Dept. in 2017. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Meridianville, AL. Rowena struggled with cancer and related illnesses for over five years and donated her body to scientific research for Multiple Myeloma and Amyloidosis. A memorial service was held in Atlanta, GA.
Rowena enjoyed being with her family, fishing and traveling. She always considered the comfort and interest of others above herself. She was a kind and selfless person.
Rowena was preceded in death by her parents, RS and Frances Appleton and her husband Bob. She is survived by two daughters: Kristi Thielbar and children Kristan & Mikailan; and Kathy Ratcliffe (Danny) and children Bethany (David), Kailey, and Joshua. She is also survived by three brothers and their wives: Ray Gene Appleton (Audrey) of Wills Point; Stanley Appleton (Serretta) of Canton; Ron Appleton (Brenda) of Waxahachie, TX; and one sister Sue Poston (Glen) of Atlanta, GA. Also surviving are nephews: Ricky, Jon, Scott, Ryder, Jeff, and Michael; nieces: Kim, Ronda, Michelle, and Amy; great-nephews: Jonathan Appleton, Cameron, Rope, Jonathan Bell, Joshua, Henry, and Waylon; great-nieces: Jennifer, Lauren, Annalise, Riggin, Katie, Allison, Penelope, Evie, and Alisha.
A private family memorial service will be held this weekend for her Texas family. Her ashes will be interred in the Sardis Cemetery.
