City officials and community leaders gathered to celebrate the grand opening of North Grove Boulevard on Wednesday.
The four-lane thoroughfare makes the connection between Farm-to-Market Road 813 and U.S. Highway 77. The new roadway is the gateway into a new housing development that consists of more than 2,200 lots.
Terry Weaver, JH Development Chief Operating Officer, stated previously the homes constructed by John Houston Custom Homes range from $230,000 -$400,000. Other builders in the development are Antares Homes and Bloomfield Homes.
In the John Houston development, there will be a trail system, amenities center, and a pool managed by a homeowners association.
The city will build a park in North Grove in the next few years, and Waxahachie ISD voters recently passed a $23 million bond for an elementary school.
North Grove Elementary is anticipated to open for the 2020-2021 school year.
The school will be 72,000 square feet, have 40 classrooms, with a maximum capacity of 650 students and a functional capacity of 533. Construction on the school is estimated to take two years.
Michael Scott, Waxahachie City Manager, previously stated a park at this part of the city would bring people together.
“We don’t have a facility like this in that area. When you add that many homes you want to have amenities and you want to have parks,” Scott said. That is what makes a community a community.”
He noted the park would have some unique attributes that will draw people to it not just from the surrounding neighborhood but citywide.
