WAXAHACHIE

After a record-setting senior season and Waxahachie soccer career, Rolando Nieto officially inked his National Letter of Intent with the University of Mary Hardin Baylor on Friday.

Nieto was instrumental in helping lead the Indians to their first-ever district championship last season, as well as the first back-to-back district championship and first trip to the regional quarterfinals in program history this season.

Waxahachie finished the season with a 19-5-2 record — also a new program high-water mark.

Individually, Nieto holds the program record for most career and season assists, and the most points in a season.

The season records were set this year after he recorded 21 goals, 24 assists and 66 points in 22 matches. All were season-high for the Indians.

The senior midfielder was named to the TASCO first-team all-region, along with Josh Duarte and Raymond Kennedy. He was also named the Dallas News area offensive player of the year for 4A-6A and the District 10-5A MVP.
