A late comeback bid fell one run short for the Lady Indian softball team in a playoff-seeding game Monday night against Mansfield Lake Ridge.

The Lady Eagles scored in each of the first five innings — including a four-spot in the second inning and three runs in the fourth — for the 10-9 win.

the Lady Indians made a late charge, scoring two runs in the top of the fifth inning and one in each of the sixth and seventh innings.

Hope David scored the lone run in the seventh inning after she laced a two-out double to center field. She then scored on Lady Eagle fielding error that put Sharrika Levingston on second base. Lillian Graham walked to put two Lady Indians on base before Kaylie Burdine flew out to deep left field to end the threat and ballgame.

Waxahachie fell to a still-impressive 18-7-1 on the season and ended District 10-5A with an 11-3 clip. Mansfield Lake Ridge finished the regular season 16-5.

Lake Ridge enters the playoffs as the second seed out of District 10-5A, while Waxahachie will play as the third seed.

Lake Ridge spoiled senior night for the Lady Indians last Friday, 12-6, to force a tie for the second spot in the final district standings.


The Lady Indians now face Burleson Centennial in the 5A Region II bi-district round.

Game one is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in Waxahachie and game two is at 4 p.m. Saturday at Burleson Centennial High School. Game three will follow if needed.
