Surrounded by family, Helen Louise Stephens, age 85, of Red Oak, TX, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on the morning of March 28, 2018. Helen, the oldest of 4 children, was born in Dallas, TX, on March 21, 1933 to Paul Everett Hamel and his wife Nathan Geneva Hamel. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, Paul Stephens, son Tracey and his wife Laura and their children Emilee, Cameron and his wife Candace, Natalie and Summer, daughter Brandi and her children, Geneva and Brandon, son Chris and his wife Valerie and their children Singen, Arianna, and Mason, brother Gary Hamel and his wife Linda and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a newborn son, her parents and 2 brothers, Tommy and Stanley Hamel. Helen was a devoted wife, mother and friend to all who knew her. She was an avid reader and especially loved reading her Bible as well as western books written by Louis L'Amour. She was an active member of Eastridge Baptist Church in Red Oak and taught Sunday School for many years earlier in her life. Above all, she loved her husband, kids and grandkids, and her door was always open for friends and family to cover over to eat, fellowship and watch westerns on TV. Her husband and daughter took great care of Helen in the final days, months and years of her life as she was disabled and needed their loving assistance in all areas of her life. Her sons contributed financial assistance as well whenever needed. An informal, private family gathering was held in her memory at her home on Easter Sunday afternoon. Helen will be missed by all but is now forever healed in the arms of her Savior.
