Southwestern Assemblies of God University now offers an alternative certification program to prepare more Texas teachers. SAGU is widely known for their Teacher Education program, with hundreds of graduates already in classrooms across the state. Alternative certification gives a second option to individuals who already hold a bachelor's degree but want to change careers and become certified to teach.
According to Teacher Education Director, Dr. Christi Wirth, "SAGU's program is a great fit for individuals who want to teach. It is also a great fit for district leaders who know people who would make fantastic teachers if only they were certified."
SAGU's program is available for a simple package price that covers coursework, field supervision and the program application. The school's accreditation also gives students the option for federal financial aid, making it simple to afford.
The most notable distinction of SAGU's alternative certification program is how it overlays with SAGU Harrison Graduate School. Rather than completing undergraduate credit, students earn 18 hours of credit toward a Master of Education (M.Ed.). All coursework is offered online, providing added convenience.
"A Master of Education can provide another way for teacher's from SAGU's program to distinguish themselves from others in their field," says Vice President for Enrollment Eddie Davis. "By the time you complete the program, you are already halfway to your master's degree."
Students who choose to transition from SAGU alternative certification into an M.Ed. also receive a tuition discount through the remainder of their program.
"Ultimately, we want to add more high caliber Texas teachers to classrooms across our state," adds Dr. Wirth.
