Waxahachie FFA students recently represented Waxahachie ISD while attending the 8th annual Agricultural Education and Texas FFA Day at the Texas State Capitol.
The Waxahachie FFA serves students enrolled in CTE courses aligned with the agriculture, food and natural resources career cluster. Participants enjoy the experience of applying classroom and laboratory lessons in hand on activities or competitive events.
For two days, the Texas State Capitol became a classroom for more than 800 Texas FFA members and agricultural educators Feb. 21 and 23. Students learned about the state’s legislative process, especially as it relates to agriculture. The event was co-hosted by the Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas and the Texas FFA Association.
Since 2010, Texas FFA members have gathered in Austin to celebrate the organization and advocate for the continued support of agricultural education. Throughout the day, members met with their state legislators, walked the Capitol hallways, and saw where history has been made since 1889.
The event provided a unique opportunity for high school students to learn from various players in the state’s legislative process. Members and guest enjoyed keynote speeches from Representative DeWayne Burns and Representative Trent Ashby.
The Texas FFA Association is an agricultural youth leadership organization that has operated as an integral part of the state’s agricultural education curriculum since 1929. The organization is the nation’s largest state FFA association with a membership of more than 118,000 members in high school and middle school campuses.
WISD Students participating included Jerica Bell, Lila Dineen, Ashlea Hunt, Whitney Johnson, Hallie Walker, Hunter Walker, Zachary Rios, Justin Smith, Ernesto Gonzalez, Madison Salzar, Miranda Sutherland, Kayla Milholen, Corinne Auvenshine, Kayla Stockman, Veronica Bradley, Landon Jones, Tyler Buchanan, Kyle Hernandez, & Kaitlyn Linsendbardt.
