I think there is something we need to take a closer look at. Like many of you, I was raised on John 3:16; “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son so that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Some might read that and say, “Ok, great, all I have to do to have eternal life is to believe in God. I believe in God, so I guess I’m good!” It’s impossible to believe in God without faith; one must have faith to believe that God exists. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. We can’t see God, but we have his word (the Bible), and we can feel His presence, especially in the Lord’s house. Hebrews 11:6 says, “Without faith, it is impossible to please God because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.
So, we know that we must believe in God; we know we have to have faith to believe in God and we also know that without faith, it’s impossible to please God.
Is there more to this? I think so! Did you know that Satan and all the demons of Hell, believe in God? They do. They know that He exists. They know that He died on the cross and was buried in a tomb and they also know that after the third day, He arose from the dead and gained power over death and the grave forever. (Amen)
So, does that mean because Satan and all the demons “Believe” in God, that they are all going to Heaven? No, it does not. It does not because it is so much more for us to do.
Many proclaim to know the Lord and claim to be a Christian, but their actions say otherwise. I’ve actually heard people proclaim to be a Christian one minute and in their next breath, they are using God’s name in vain and cursing.
In Matthew 7:20, the bible talks about “by their fruits, you will know them.” Meaning, by someone’s actions, you will know if they are followers of Christ.
John 14:15 says, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
I’m just afraid that for the one who says that they believe in God (John 3:16), yet live their life the way they want, is missing the point of what it means to believe and live for Christ.
Can we believe in God; live the way we want and make Heaven our home? I think this deserves a closer look. It deserves a closer look because where you spend eternity depends on it.
All through the Bible, God talks about how He desires to have a relationship with us. If we truly believe in God and we understand his love, and what He did for us to be able to obtain salvation, we will want to live for Him. Living for Him means that we strive to live a life that keeps his commandments.
Here are the questions that need to be asked. Do you believe in God? Do you live for Christ? Do you earnestly seek Him as Hebrews 11:6 reads?
If you believe it and you don’t live it, then there is a big problem and a breakdown of where you really are with God. Matthew 7:21 reads, “Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven ~ only the one who does the will of my Father in Heaven.”
We have to live what we believe! If you really love the Lord, you will want to live for Him, not just believe in Him.
Do something to make a difference in someone’s life today.
