To the Editor,
We have been sweeping the immigration issue under the carpet for over 30 years. We welcomed immigrants to work first in our fields and then everywhere people wanted cheap labor. The vast majority of them came to America for the reasons that most of our ancestors came: Religious freedom, jobs, open society, adventure just to name a few.
Is it our responsibility as a nation that exploited their cheap labor to then cast them aside? I learned long ago that this great melting pot that is “America” is enhanced by its plurality of cultures. America is and always was the great experiment the world looked to until we closed and locked our doors.
Treat others as you would like to be treated.
