With a chance to take hold of second place in District 17-3A as the regular season winds down, it was the Keene Lady Charges who came out on top Tuesday at home against Maypearl.

The Lady Panthers fell behind by three in the first quarter and trailed 26-21 at the half. Keene squeaked out each of the next two quarters for the 55-45 district win.

Sol Cabuto led Maypearl with 11 points, while Kynlee Herrin scored nine, and Lillie Beason and Meredith Keasler both scored six. Alyssa Holder added five points. Phylicia Grimes and Hadlee Gibson each scored four points.

Beason led the Lady Panthers with seven rebounds. Grimes added four, and Herrin and Keasler both finished with three.

Maypearl is now 15-13 on the season and 7-3 in district play. The Lady Panthers need one win or a Mildred loss over the final four games to clinch a postseason berth.

Grandview (21-8, 10-0 in 17-3A) leads the district race, while (22-9, 9-1) Keene sits in second. Blooming Grove is currently in fourth place at 17-9 on the season and 6-4 in the district.

Maypearl returns home Friday, Jan. 26 to host Rice at 6:15 p.m. The Lady Panthers defeated the Lady Owls, 60-24, in their first meeting on Jan. 2 in Rice.
