Mansfield Lake Ridge rallied in the second half Friday to send the Red Oak Lady Hawks into a Tuesday showdown against Mansfield Summit still searching for their first district win.
Though the Lady Eagles jumped out to a 21-12 first-quarter lead, Red Oak bounced back to outpace Lake Ridge 10-2 in the second quarter to trail by just one point at the half, 23-22.
The Lady Hawks then took their first lead of the contest in the third quarter, holding a 36-31 advantage after three frames. Lake Ridge then outscored Red Oak 22-13 in the fourth quarter for the 56-49 win.
Red Oak fell to 6-11 on the season and 0-4 in District 10-5A with the loss.
“We just have to keep working. This is a new system, a new coach, and they are trying to learn me, and trying to learn new plays," Red Oak head girls' basketball coach Darren Eubanks said. It is a process and just takes a while.”
Arienna Roxborough led the Lady Eagles with 12 second-half points. Her 14 points on the evening trailed Lauren Baker's game-high 16 points.
Brooklyn Evans led the Lady Hawks with 12 points. Ariel Warren and Aniyah Johnson scored eight points, Kennedy Watkins added six, and Daniell Sauls had four.
Lexi Holmes and Lauren Lafitte each scored three points, and Aliyah Harden added two.
Red Oak hosts Mansfield Summit on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m.
