The Red Oak Hawks took care of business in a big way during the final tuneup against Irving MacArthur before beginning District 10-5A play.
Though the Hawks held just a one-point lead after the first quarter, 13-12, they exploded for 26 points in the second quarter for a 39-19 advantage.
It was the 12 points of Emerson Wallace in the second quarter that pushed the Hawks to their eventual 70-39 win.
"They came out ready to play," Red Oak head basketball coach Jason Sasser said. "We were coming off of a good tournament in Cedar Hill so I just wanted to make sure we didn't have any letdowns or be lackadaisical and the boys put up 70 points and held them to 39. We did pretty good."
Howard Turner led all scorers with 26 points with 15 of those coming in the second half.
Keymond Taylor added 10 points, and Andrew Yuhanna finished with seven.
The Hawks improved to 9-3 on the season with the win. Red Oak will travel to Mansfield Timberview next Tuesday, Dec. 19 to begin District 10-5A.
The Wolves will enter with a 12-3 record and ranked second in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 5A poll.
"We get to play the defending champions this upcoming Tuesday on the road, so it'll be a big challenge for us. My guys are looking forward to it," Sasser said. "This is a brand new team and a different team than last year, so we are just looking forward to the challenge. But we know that we are in the number one district in the state and one of the number one districts in the nation."
Tipoff is at 8 p.m.
