WAXAHACHIE — The National Christian College Athletic Association released the Central All-Region teams for volleyball and five Southwestern Assemblies of God University volleyball players were honored.
On top of the individual honors, SAGU received an at-large bid to compete in the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Florida.
Seniors Jessica Sodich and Paulyae Dawkins received NCCAA All-Region First Team honors, along with junior Kali Shaw and sophomore Sophia Ivy. Junior Celi Bruce made second team all-region for the Lady Lions.
These five Lady Lions led SAGU to a 27-7 record, which is one of its best seasons in recent history.
Coach Hank Moore said he is extremely pleased with the individual accomplishments of his players and the recognition of his entire team by the NCCAA.
"This has been a very special year for SAGU Volleyball," Moore added. "Our girls being recognized at the regional level is great. We had four girls make 1st Team All Region and one make 2nd team. Each one of these girls are having a great season. Jessica and Sophia have both moved into 3rd place in their respective categories. Jessica is No. 3 all-time in kills and digs. Sophia is #3 all-time in assists. Kali is on pace to move into the top five in kills. Paulyae has had a great run for SAGU. She is one of the best middles to ever play here at SAGU. Celi Bruce will also move into the top five in digs and is on pace to potentially set an all-time school record for digs.”
The NCCAA national tournament will be held in Kissimmee, Florida Nov. 29 — Dec. 3.
SAGU received the No. 3 seed and will play in Pool B along with Biola University, Campbellsville, Emmanuel College, McMurry University, Southern Wesleyan University, Life Pacific, Grace College, Bluefield College and Oakland City University.
