LaJoyce Wakeland Brown, age 86, of Waxahachie passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on November 23, 2017. She was born October 11, 1931, in Concord, Texas to Henry Lee Wakeland, Sr. and Willie G. (Brown) Wakeland. The family moved to Waxahachie in 1944, and LaJoyce graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1948. She married Jackie L. Brown of Waxahachie on January 21, 1951. LaJoyce retired from Citizens National Bank in Waxahachie where she held various positions over a fifty-year period. She was an active member of Ferris Heights United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. LaJoyce was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
LaJoyce is survived by two daughters, Benita Brown and Bettina Hutchison of Waxahachie, grandchildren Jason Sullivan and wife Jennifer of Arlington, Texas, Andrew Sullivan of Fort Worth, and Christie Kelley and husband Eddie of Waxahachie; great-grandchildren Maca, Hunter and Logan Kelley; brother Henry Lee Wakeland, Jr. and wife Jean of Red Oak, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. LaJoyce was preceded in death by her husband Jackie L. Brown, daughter Belinda Brown Sullivan, her parents and son-in-law Al Gerstenberg.
A private graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ferris Heights United Methodist Church, 108 Center Street, Waxahachie, TX, 75165 or to a charity of your choice.
The family gives special thanks to Bristol Lighted Pathways Hospice and their nurses who helped them during this difficult time.
