Memorial services for Robert O. "Bob" Jones, 78, of Noonday, will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 2pm at Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler with Rev. Richard Luna officiating. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled from 1pm to 2pm before the service. Bob passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017, in Tyler. He was born on November 12, l938 in Waxahachie, Texas to Sterling Oran Jones and Juanita Mae Holland Jones.

Bob was a member of the United Methodist Church of Noonday and was a 32 Degree Mason. He graduated from East Texas State University in Commerce in 1962 where he met and married his wife of 56 years, Mollie Clayton Jones. After college, they came to Tyler where he taught mathematics, shop, and coached football at Hogg Jr. High. He also refereed football all over the area. Bob was a Certified Auctioneer and enjoyed a lifetime of loving horses and farm life. He owned a pet food company in the early years shipping to kennels nationwide. Bob founded two appraisal companies where he traveled all over the world for international companies in the oil, gas, and heavy equipment industries. His favorite trips were to Australia and Singapore for their amazing foods, and to Sumatra where he walked wooden planks in the jungles with crocs swimming below. His traveling stories were adventures for the books.

Bob was a founding member of community men who formed the Noonday Volunteer Fire Department around his kitchen table in 1974 and fought several fires himself in a business suit in the early days. He was known by family and friends as someone who could cook anything, build anything, and fix anything...and was always the one they turned to. Bob was also an artist as he was a master knife maker. He loved working with Damascus steel and exotic woods and fashioned many beautiful knives that have remained treasures to his family.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Bob is survived by his wife, Mollie Clayton Jones, son Ryan Wade Jones of Austin and daughter Wendy Carol Jones of Dallas, and grandchildren Henry Jones, Addison Jones, and Isabella Navarro. He was most proud of his loving children and grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Ronald H Jones, and wife, Carol, and sister, Diann Marchman and brother-in-law Rusty. He is also survived by some nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that are considered "family." The past 50 years of Christmas Eves have been spent with the Cecil and Joetta Roach family and Bob and his family....a tradition that will continue but will be different without his presence.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Jones, Colby Jones, Evan Marchman, Taylor Marchman and Kyle Roach.

If desired, memorials to honor Bob may be made to the Noonday Volunteer Fire Department, 16619 Hwy 155 South, Tyler, TX 75703.
