WAXAHACHIE — The Southwestern Assemblies of God University men’s basketball team opened the Delton Deal coaching-era with a 109-78 win over Southwest Adventist University on Tuesday night in the Sheaffer Center.
SAGU jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Freshman guard Cody Farmer hit five 3-pointers for the Lions and led them in scoring with 20 points in 18 minutes of play in his debut. Division-I transfer, Terrance Hubby, had 16 points and five rebounds in his first game for the Lions. Dareny Sims had a solid all-around performance putting up 11 points to go along with five rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Cameron Hill and Darian Davis also had 11 points for the Lions in the win.
The Lions offense was dominant scoring 109 points in the game while hitting 14-39 from behind the arc (35 percent).
New head coach Delton Deal was pleased with his team and is excited about what the season holds for his young Lion squad.
“I am proud of how our guys fought tonight and pushed the ball," Deal said. "We are continually learning a lot about ourselves and I am really excited for what God will do with this group of young men.”
SAGU will host Dallas Christian on Thursday at 7 p.m. for the annual Texas Snowstorm.
