WAXAHACHIE — An Ellis County Grand Jury indicted a Waxahachie resident in connection with the robbery of a beauty supply store on Sept. 13.
Marqavius Quintrel Wheaton, 19, was indicted on the charge of aggravated robbery.
The indictment states that Wheaton allegedly — while committing the offense of theft of property — put the victim in fear of bodily injury or death with the use of a firearm.
Waxahachie Police Lt. Todd Woodruff said officers received a call of an armed robbery at about 9:15 a.m. on Feb. 14 at a business located in the 800 block of Ferris Ave.
“Our officers responded and met with the caller who reported she was robbed at gunpoint before the suspect fled on foot with cash taken from the business,” Woodruff said previously.
Woodruff explained that officers collected surveillance video from the store that showed the offense. Police then posted a photo of the suspect on social media. They ended up getting several tips called in that week from persons who thought the suspect looked like somebody they knew.
“We executed a search warrant Friday afternoon, Feb. 17, at a residence in the 100 block of Penn St. and located a handgun,” Woodruff noted. “Officers took Wheaton into custody on an outstanding traffic warrant. After an interview with Waxahachie Police Department detectives, he was charged with aggravated robbery and taken to the Wayne McCollum Detention Center.”
According to records from the detention center, Wheaton was booked into the detention center on Feb. 18 and is no longer listed as an inmate as of 2 p.m. on Friday. Online records from the Ellis County District Clerks Office Wheaton received a bond of $50,000 on Feb. 18.
