WAXAHACHIE — The opportunity to learn through the Waxahachie Lighthouse for Learning Community Education Program for the fall slate of classes is now available.

The classes listed below begin in October. On-line learning is also available.

Introduction to Word

This class will provide you with the tools needed to successfully create and save documents, edit and make corrections and use automatic text features. You will format pages, paragraphs, move, copy, find and replace text. You will also learn to use proofing tools and preview and print documents, envelopes and labels and learn to work with templates.

Introduction to Excel

This class is for anyone who wants to learn the fundamentals of Microsoft Excel. You will learn how to understand spreadsheets, enter data and save workbooks, modify worksheets and workbooks. You will also be provided with the tools to create and edit charts and graphs, work with formulas and use templates, styles and auto formats.

Maintenance Welding

Take the mystery out of welding. Are there things around the house you need to mend? Are you interested in building a fence, carport, BBQ grill, creating an art project or develop a potential job skill? This experienced Waxahachie High School teacher will cover general purposes and introduce the fundamentals of ARC welding, Mig Welding and Tig Welding processes. In addition, participants will also become familiar with cutting metal using both oxy-acetylene and plasma cutting techniques. Students may bring their own gloves, protective eyewear, and welding helmet. This class will be taught at Waxahachie High School.

Advanced Welding

Here’s your chance, using welding techniques, to build your own project start to finish with the assistance and supervision of an experienced welding instructor. This experienced instructor will cover Stick and MIG welding processes as well as oxy-acetylene and plasma cutting techniques. Students will be responsible for purchasing their own supplies for their projects and bringing them to class. Students may bring their own gloves, protective eyewear, and welding helmet. This class will be taught at Waxahachie High School.

Join this experienced traveler as you make plans for your next trip! There are so many places to go and so little time and money. We will discuss how to decide where you want to go, when to go, and how to get there. Learn tricks and apps to plan transportation, things to do, places to stay, and where to eat.

Country Waltz Dance

Join professional dance instructors Cory & LaDonna Turner and learn the Country Waltz! The Country Waltz is a progressive dance that moves around the dance floor. It is a fun and easy dance to learn. Qi Gong

This class is beneficial for all fitness levels. Tai Chi is one of the oldest forms of group exercise. It is a link of unchanging movements that have passed through the centuries of tradition. Qi Gong is a variation of Tai Chi that focuses on stability and balance. Both increase flexibility, improve strength, and cardiovascular fitness in a gentle way. Students who have attended this class previously can perfect what they have already learned. Please wear comfortable clothes that allow movement and athletic shoes.

All About Trees

Do you have trees or are planning to add trees to your property? This class will go over the various trees that do well in Ellis County, including native trees. Subjects covered will be, what to look for in the Nursery, how and where to plant and how to care for your trees after planting. Pruning basics is included which cover when and how to prune. Next to your house, trees are the next most important investment on your property; learn how to protect that investment.

If you are a land owner or have newly acquired a farm or ranchland and are seeking information for the best way to utilize your property, join this experienced instructor for advice. This class will be held at the Ellis County Texas A&M Agri Life Extension Office at 701 S. I-35E, Suite 3 in Waxahachie.

Fall Wreath Making

Design and create your own Fall Wreath. The instructor will walk you through the step-by-step creation of a beautiful deco mesh wreath for the Fall Season – for your door, child’s room, or gift for a friend. Basics of Songwriting – Learn the Basics, Idea to Finished Song!

This class will equip you with the knowledge and understanding of the art of songwriting. If you have entertained the idea of writing a song, join this talented and experienced song writer with 30 plus years of experience. Students need not have any prior experience in songwriting and don’t even have to play an instrument (although is helpful). You will learn various information about songwriting and some about the music industry in general. Please bring note taking material and a guitar if you play.

Cake Decorating & for Special Occasions & Holidays

Surprise family and friends with a personally decorated cake for special occasions. Learn basic cake baking and decorating skills, use of decorating equipment as well as making borders and flowers.
