WAXAHACHIE — Plans are underway throughout Waxahachie ISD for the 20th annual Grandfriends Week Celebration.
Through Sunday, Sept. 10 is the official "Grandparents Day," the district will celebrate those influential family members and friends during the week of Sept. 11-15.
The festivities begin a week-long special celebration as students invite their grandparents, great-grandparents, grandfriends and grandneighbors to join them for lunch, reading and storytelling. “Grandfriends Week was developed to encourage intergenerational relations with WISD students," said Melissa Cobb, Director, Partners in Education. "This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to enjoy lunch and share conversation and stories with grandparents and grandfriends. We encourage our students to invite their Grandparents or Grandfriends to join them. We are excited and look forward to this event every year as it is always a rewarding and special time."
Last year over 3,980 Grandfriends participated in this week-long event. Guests joined students from the Waxahachie community, across the state and beyond. Grandfriends will take part at the WISD Childcare Center, Turner Prekindergarten Academy, Clift, Dunaway, Felty, Marvin, Northside, Shackelford and Wedgeworth Elementaries, Finley Junior High and Howard Junior High.
