WAXAHACHIE — The second Saturday is reserved for the kids at the Waxahachie Downtown Farmers Market and this week is "Kid’s Crafts Day."
The Ellis County Master Naturalists will be on hand with a “Wild and Woody” craft for the kids. They will be bringing lots of colorful leaves and grasses, interesting sticks and twigs, unusual feathers, stones, seeds and other gatherings from the wild, all to stimulate the imagination of young minds as they create their one-of-a-kind piece of artwork. Be sure to bring your kids and grandkids back to the market information booth for this fun project. Also, Kara, at Books & More, invites children to stop by her booth for coloring sheets along with fold-and-fly airplane birds.
A September trip to the Waxahachie Downtown Farmers Market is sure to delight and amaze, as growers head toward fall the varieties of greens, fruits and vegetables will begin to shift to cool weather produce. There will be more winter squash, greens and fall fruits. Look for the first of acorn squash, sweet potatoes, dark leafy greens such as spinach. Turnip and kale.
There continues to be an abundance of heat-loving summer fruits and vegetables. Shoppers will find watermelon, cantaloupe, and peaches along with local vegetables, produce, handmade tamales, and locally raised beef. Look for plenty of tomatoes, peppers, summer squash, cucumbers, zucchini, okra, field beans, grains, eggs, plants, herbs, honey, pickles, herbal vinegar, salsas, marinades, preserves, pies, cookies, cakes and other pastries.

In addition to the produce, the market's talented crafters offer soaps, essential oils, health, beauty and kitchen items. You can find art glass, handmade jewelry, vintage collectibles, handmade aprons and kitchen items made with colorful and seasonal fabrics, along with custom wreaths in seasonal colors or your favorite school colors.
