WAXAHACHIE — Police did not have to look far when searching for a suspect involved in a recent grocery store robbery.

Officers found Dallas resident, Joseph Griffith, 37, behind the store he had allegedly robbed after they were dispatched at 3:46 p.m. on Sept. 2 in the 400 block of North U.S. Highway 77.

“The cashier reported a customer demanded money from her cash register, telling her ‘something bad would happen' if she didn’t comply,” Waxahachie Police Lt. Todd Woodruff said. “After obtaining money from the register, the man left the store on foot. No weapon was displayed.”

Woodruff said Waxahachie Police officer Chance Huckabee found a man matching the robber’s description in the alleyway behind the store at 3:52 p.m.

“Officers inside the store pulled up the surveillance video and determined this was the person they were looking for,” Woodruff said. “A sum of cash matching that stolen from the store’s register was found on the suspect.”

Griffith was arrested and booked into the Wayne McCollum Detention Center on the charges of robbery and resisting arrest. According to online records from the detention center, Griffith is no longer listed as an inmate as of Thursday.
