A place to feel at home, and not just a place just to come back to, is the goal for the staff at Oxford at Crossroads Centre. For the last five years, the apartment complex has also offered its residents the chance to connect with each and form friendships through community events.
The complex, which opened in 2012, provides potential tenants a wide variety of living options. Oxford has 220 units that range in size of one, two and three bedrooms. Each apartment comes with full-sized washer and dryers, large bathrooms and lots of storage space throughout.
"This is a community here," community manager Nichole Chesser said. "We kind of like to promote ourselves as a family. For instance, we had somebody’s window get shattered by the landscaping. All of the neighbors came in and said ‘ I know she sleeps during the day, but we need to let her know that the window is cracked.’ People really watch out for each other around here."
“We are kind of off the beaten path and tucked back over here. We still have people from Waxahachie say, ‘when did you guys come in?’ We say we have been here four and a half year. They say, ‘We have never seen you over here.’ The traffic that comes over here is because they know somebody over here. It is a gated community. So it is a little bit more secure in that aspect.”
Oxford also provides its residents with several amenities where they can enjoy their free time, such as a 24-hour fitness center, a barbecue area and a dog park. The complex also provides a valet trash service for residents that runs Sunday – Thursday so tenants don’t have to make a trip out to the dumpster.
Along with the amenities, the staff is on site to take suggestions on how to improve the quality of life at the complex, answer questions or facilitate repairs a resident needs a repair done in their unit.
“We are constantly adding new things to the community. Residents come and say, ‘how about.’ We listen to what they say. Once or twice a month we try and put on some type of community something. We did an opening day for baseball we had hot dogs, popcorn and other baseball food in the office,” Chesser explained. “I that we have got a great group of residents and they all seem to be happy. We have lots of residents that just come and poke their head in to say ‘hi.’ It is more of a community rather than a place to come and fall asleep in the evenings. It is a place that we want them to enjoy and call home.”
Rents at Oxford at Crossroads Centre start at $990 for one bedroom and go up to $1,490 for three bedrooms. Utilities are not included in the rent and water is sub-metered, so residents pay for what they actually use. Oxford offers three-percent preferred employer discounts with such companies as Walgreens, Baylor Scott and White Medical Center, school districts, and police and fire departments.
