ALMA — A hunter discovered human remains Saturday afternoon, just outside of Ennis.
Ellis County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched at 4:25 p.m. near Section House Road in Alma to a non-addressed parcel of agricultural land. The area consists of planted crops and a small wooded section.
“The responding deputies, shortly after arrival, confirmed the remains to be human," stated Ellis County Sheriff's Cpt. Chris Hamilton. "The deputies then contacted the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Division investigators, along with a crime scene investigator to respond to the location.
“The investigators determined that the remains had been scattered over a large area. The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification."
Hamilton added that the crime scene investigation began at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Sunday. Assisting in the investigation are ECSO investigators, Texas Department of Public Safety aircraft and staff from the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification.
The unidentified human remains will be transferred to the UNT Center for Human Identification for positive identification. The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the scene as a homicide.
