DALLAS — Gillian Rae Perry of Milford was among the students recognized Monday evening at Southern Methodist University’s 20th annual Honors Convocation. The convocation is a tradition at SMU that celebrates new honor society inductees, school and departmental awards, national fellowships, and other distinguished awards.
Perry received the Outstanding Creative Achievement in Film/Media Production award from SMU’s film and media department and was recognized for membership in Kappa Tau Alpha, which honors academic excellence in the communication arts. Perry will graduate magna cum laude next month with a Bachelor of Music in music composition and a Bachelor of Arts in film and media.
Her films have been selected for area university film festivals, and while at SMU, she has had the opportunity to compose a variety of music, including film scores. Perry was the Waxahachie Symphony Association’s 2013 Young Artist Award instrumentalist winner and a home-school graduate. This fall, she will begin work on her Master of Fine Arts in music composition at California Institute of the Arts.
