To the Editor,

On Saturday, May 6th, the Waxahachie Symphony Association gave the community a free concert – Ft. Worth Symphony Orchestra. It was wonderful, and many attended. It was underwritten by The Waxahachie Foundation, Texas Commission on the Arts, and WSA business and individual donors.

Concerts don’t just happen. It takes work. WSA Board Members worked very hard. We owe Melissa Chapman a big Thank You for the beautiful posters for the Season, the rack cards listing the coming Season of concerts, designing banners for the newspapers, designing the programs, and numerous information for the newspapers. Thanks also to Nancy Post for her work on getting Grant money.

Thank you, Waxahachie Daily Light, Midlothian Mirror, and the Ennis Daily Record for running the information in the Community Notes.

We are blessed to have a wonderful Board of Directors: Winnie O’Donnell (Scholarships), Dr. Amanda Lee-Hing (Secretary/Concert Planner), Sondra Robertson (Membership), Bunny Ruddick(Assistant to Melissa and Sondra), Kitty Gee (Belles & Beaus 2017) Liz Jendrzey (Belles & Beaus 2018)), Tim Grant (Treasurer), Nancy Post (Grants), and Melissa Chapman (Public Relations). They work hard to bring top quality music to Ellis County. We also appreciate Dan Henry (CPA), and Charles Flowers (Website).

The corporate sponsors are deeply appreciated. We could not continue to bring the highest possible quality programs without them: Waxahachie Foundation, Southwestern Assemblies of God University, Waxahachie Arts Council, Navarro County Cooperative, Hilco County Cooperative, InterBank, Pearman Oil & LP Gas, Victron Energy, Burleson’s Honey, Ellis County Abstract & Title Co., KJ Law CPA, Cosgrove Chiropractic, Dry Clean Super Center, College Street Printing, Gingerbread Antique Mall, and Ellis County Music Center,

The Directors are working hard for a concert on Saturday, June 3rd. The WSA will kick off their 40th Season with a free concert on the lawn of the Nicholas P. Sims Library. The Classic Swing Band will entertain with their wonderful mix of styles: Jazz, Latin, Swing, Rock, and more! The lawn will be available at 5:30, and the band will begin at 7:00 p.m. This is underwritten by The Waxahachie Foundation, Navarro County Electric Co-op, and HEB. Bringing families together for wonderful music is our goal.

Thank you for a wonderful Season!

Sherry Dyess, WSA President
