WAXAHACHIE — Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) is adding a scholarship for new Human Resource Management majors.

According to a university press release, new on-campus undergraduate students who choose Human Resource Management as their major will receive $1,000 per year ($500 per semester). The scholarship is renewable, which allows students to save up to $4,000 on a four-year degree.

Qualification is simple. New students who intend to earn their Human Resource (HR) Management degree on-campus, meet the academic requirements and declare HR Management as their major when they enroll, receive the scholarship. The scholarship can be renewed annually if the student remains a HR Management major in good academic standing.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs in human resources are projected to see an increase of nine percent from 2014 to 2024. Human resources professionals are employed in nearly every industry as they play a vital role in managing and providing the appropriate care and direction for employees of businesses and organizations. A high functioning HR team provides strategic direction and helps an organization avoid areas of risk. Human Resources is also about the development of a business’s greatest organizational assets—people.

Business Department Chair Dr. Christi Sanders stated, “If you have a head for business, but a heart for people, then HR might be a field you want to consider. HR professionals can have a profound impact on the culture of an organization. There is little greater opportunity for marketplace ministry than in the development of people.”
