WAXAHACHIE — Rotarian Clyde Melick had the pleasure of introducing Global High School’s principal Ken Lynch as a special guest. Mr. Lynch then presented the Global High School Student of the Month Award for February to Alex Mercado. Alex is the daughter of Ramil and Leilani Mercado.

Alex is receiving this award due to her many dedicated service hours. In addition to helping wherever she is needed in the Interact Club, she spends numerous hours working at Hidden Miracles, her favorite Interact event.

She is a senior at Global High and is in the top quarter of her class. She will graduate from Navarro College with her Associates Degree in May and receive her diploma from Global High in June.

Alex personifies the kind of student every principal would love to have on his or her campus. She has a reputation among teachers and staff for being a caring, service-oriented student who excels in her classes. This is why they chose Alex to represent Global High earlier this year when the district was looking for students to showcase.

She is not all work and no play. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, biking, playing with her dog, video games and eating. Alex has been accepted at Texas A&M University where she will study zoology to eventually become a veterinarian.

Members of the Rotary club stated that it is an honor for Rotary to acknowledge such an outstanding student and noted that Mercado will have her name engraved alongside other standout students on a plaque that will hang in the halls of Waxahachie High School for many years to come.
