Melvin "Snooks" Glandon, 94, of Waxahachie, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Pleasant Manor Health and Rehab. He was born March 29, 1922, in Palmer, Texas to Alex Andrew and Della (Owens) Glandon.

Melvin was a devoted Christian, husband, and family man. He was married to his wife Helen for over 62 years, whom he lovingly cared for in sickness and in health. He was a member of the College Street Church of Christ, where he faithfully served his Lord & Savior. “Papaw” set the example for his family with his honesty, integrity, and infectious sense of humor.

Melvin attended Trinity University for two years before being called to serve in the U.S. Army in 1943. Always proud of his service to his country, he became integrally involved in the Honor Flight of Ellis County, an organization that affords local veterans the opportunity to fly to Washington, D.C. and experience the WWII memorial and related sites. Professionally, he worked as a salesman for Utica Drop Forge & Tool Company for over thirty years, before retiring at the age of 72.

At home in Waxahachie, Melvin could often be found on his back porch, ready to welcome his frequent visitors with a smile, and provide the advice of the day. He enjoyed tending to his garden, deer hunting with his grandchildren, and traveling in his later years.

The legacy that Melvin Glandon leaves behind is readily apparent in the loved ones that follow in his enormous footsteps. He was, and always will be, the patriarch of a loving, growing family, and he has made an indelible mark on the lives of those he touched with his wisdom and grace.

Melvin was preceded in death by his wife Helen, five sisters and two brothers, and one granddaughter. He is survived by his children Delna Meade, Melva & Richard Roush, Lee Ann & Don Adkisson, and Linda & Paul Ping; grandchildren Darren Meade and his wife Natalie, Grant Meade and his wife Jenn, Jason Thompson and his wife Holly, Eric Thompson and his wife Jen, Kyle Owens and his wife Morgan, Lynsie Johnston and her husband Eric, and Justin & Austin Ping; great-grandchildren Brock, Macey, & Kinley Thompson, Jake, Paige, and Jackson Meade, as well as future great grandchildren Leighton Johnston and Wyatt Meade.
