Flamingos will soon be urging Midlothian residents to Stick Your Neck Out for Veterans, according to members of the American Legion Auxiliary Chris Kyle Unit 388 of Midlothian.
The Stick Your Neck Out for Veterans program will raise money for the Midlothian American Legion Post by allowing community members to flock their friends and neighbors with silly pink plastic yard art birds.
"All proceeds from this fundraiser will support the programs and projects of the American Legion Auxiliary which enhance the lives and honor U.S. veterans and active military members," said Janice McAda, auxiliary president.
It is $10 to nominate someone to receive a small flock of six plastic flamingos and $15 to nominate their yard to be decorated with a dozen of the pink critters, she said. Residents wanting to protect themselves can purchase insurance for a $10 donation.
The birds will be left in the yard for one night before being moved to the next recipient yard.
Nominations can be made at the Auxilary's booth at the Fall Festival on Oct. 15 or by calling 214-356-9164 to request the forms. The birds will begin appearing on Oct. 17.
