MANSFIELD – The driver of a tractor-trailer was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after police say they recovered 800 pounds of marijuana concealed in the trailer.

The incident occurred at 2 p.m., when Mansfield police commercial vehicle enforcement Sgt. Ken Hopkins stopped the vehicle in the 3100 block of E. Broad St.

“During the stop, CVE Sgt. Hopkins developed probable cause to search the trailer-trailer,” a spokesman said, saying the marijuana was recovered during that search.

The name of the driver was not released by police, who cited the ongoing investigation.

A formal charge had not been filed by press time.
