Two people remain in custody on a felony drug charge as a result of a traffic stop Sunday evening during which Ellis County-based Department of Public Safety troopers say they found 60 pounds of cocaine in the couple’s vehicle.
Trooper Ricky Barber conducted a traffic stop at 8:58 p.m., noticing several indicators of criminal activity, according to an affidavit relating to the arrest.
Barber deployed his canine, with the drug dog making a positive alert to the vehicle, according to the affidavit, which indicates a subsequent search revealed 26 bundles of what is believed to be cocaine hidden in the vehicle’s gas tank.
Martin Martinez, 46, (driver) and Rosa Martinez, 46, (passenger) were each charged with possession of a controlled substance more than 1 gram, less than 400 grams, and booked into Wayne McCollum Detention Center.
A $75,000 bond was set for each.
