First responders battled a grass fire that burned about 10 acres near Italy on Friday evening.

Units were dispatched to the intersection of U.S. Highway 77 and Carter Road at about 5:50 p.m. Responding to the call were members of the Forreston, Italy and Milford fire departments.

Italy fire Capt. Michael Chambers said firefighters were able to get the fire under control in about 15 minutes. The cause of the fire was unknown, he said.

Providing traffic control were members of the Italy Police Department.

During the call, part of U.S. Highway 77 was shut down as a precaution in case the fire was to move across the roadway.
