The Rotary Club of Waxahachie is part of a larger district called District 5810. Each year the district governor visits each club to provide information, inspiration and leadership. This year’s district governor, Sandy Forester, delivered a message of change.
When Forester’s father was a Rotarian, the Rotary Club was often thought of as the old boys’ club. They signed checks which were of great benefit but they didn’t really get involved personally. As you read in last Sunday’s article, “New Rotarians at Rotary Club,” things have changed. Now even the district governor is a woman.
The reason we join the Rotary Club now is to change the world; to make a difference; to change lives.
Each member now believes this is true. The motto, Service Above Self, has meaning and motivation whether it is eradicating polio or building a wheelchair ramp. In a few weeks Rotarians will be participating in Operation 1st Day of School passing out backpacks and other items needed by school children. In addition they will be giving each child a book of his or her own to take home and cherish.
Impressions are important and the impression the club makes on the community is critical to its ability to do the projects so necessary today.
What kind of person joins? Someone who wants to work hard to make our community, nation and world better. Someone who places Service above Self. How would you fit in?
