RUSTON, La. (AP) — With bluegrass and country music singer Ricky Skaggs as its headliner, the Louisiana Peach Festival is planning for extra bleachers.
"I expect this to be the best crowd the peach festival has ever seen," steering committee member Marlen Waters said.
Skaggs will perform June 27, the second day of the three-day Squire Creek Louisiana Peach Festival. Hank Staples and Thundercreek open the 6 p.m. concert, with Skaggs scheduled at 8 p.m. Admission is $10.
Waters said the festival will have bleacher and amphitheater-style seating for about 2,000, with a large grassed area where people can plunk down lawn chairs and blankets.
So many fans have already called that the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, which puts on the annual festival, has begun selling advance tickets for the first time ever, spokeswoman Nancy Bergeron said.
Skaggs isn't the festival's first big-name performer. The current attendance leader is Percy Sledge, who attracted more than 3,000 fans two years ago. Irma Thomas and the Texas swing group Asleep At The Wheel also have played the peach fest.
