Sunday, Sept. 11, is Grandparents Day, which kicks off Waxahachie ISD’s celebration of Grandfriends Week, Sept. 12-16.

“(It’s) a special celebration in Waxahachie schools as students invite their grandparents, great-grandparents, grandfriends and grandneighbors to join them for lunch, reading and storytelling,” a spokesman said. “This is a wonderful opportunity for intergenerational sharing for our students. We are excited about grandfriends joining our students for lunch during this week – it is always a very special time.”

Last year, more than 2,700 grandfriends participated in the special week, with guests joining students from the Waxahachie community, across the state and beyond. Grandfriends will participate at the following campuses: WISD Childcare Center; Marvin, Clift, Dunaway, Felty, Northside, Shackelford and Wedgeworth elementaries; Finley Junior High; Howard Junior High; and Waxahachie Ninth Grade Academy.
