WASHINGTON, D.C.  – U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison has announced $1,080,830 in U.S. Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grants for Texas firefighters to improve overall preparedness and first response capabilities.

Among the recipients is the Waxahachie Fire Department, which received $12,239 to use toward operations and safety.

“These grants will provide our firefighters and first responders with the resources they need to save lives,” Hutchison said. “The funding will help these brave men and women better prepare for and respond to emergency situations in our communities.”

According to DHS, this funding will enable local fire departments and emergency medical service organizations to purchase or receive training, conduct first responder health and safety programs, and buy equipment and response vehicles.
