‘Pride and Prejudice’
Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” will be presented at 7 p.m. Feb. 26-28 by the Ellis County Christian Homeschool Organization in the lyceum, located upstairs at Nicholas P. Sims Library, 515 W. Main St., Waxahachie

The Bristol Opry will host a country music show at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 at the old Bristol schoolhouse, located at 100 Church St. in Bristol. Admission is free; donations will be accepted. The Bristol Cemetery Association and Caring Hands of Bristol are sponsoring the event.

A benefit concert for Manny Martinez will be held at The Pump, 200 E. Jefferson in downtown Waxahachie, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28.
The musical extravaganza, consisting of several bands and soloists, is sponsored by the Waxahachie High School Student Council, with music to begin at 7. Advance tickets are $5 and will be on sale by the student council at school. Ticket price at the door is $7.
The concert lineup opens with Dakota, with Baithouse Stompers to perform at 7:40 followed by Jennifer Fiedler at 8:20.
Among Angels will perform at 9, with Lynn Haven at 9:50 and concluding with Greenlightgo at 10:30. A snack bar will be available to the concert audience.

100th birthday reception
A 100th birthday celebration for Eva Hobbs Tate will be held at Renfro Health Care Center, 1413 W. Main, Waxahachie, in the sunroom from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28. The community is invited. Tate will turn 100 years old March 1. The family requests no gifts.
Free health day for
On Sunday, March 1, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars is sponsoring a free health day for veterans, their families and the public. All are encouraged to get checked. This will consist of taking blood pressures and checking glucose and cholesterol. There will also be a variety of information sheets and packets to help with diets.
The Waxahachie VFW Post 3894 is located on the southbound service road of Interstate 35E, just south of U.S. Highway 287. The event will run from 1-5 p.m.

ECEA birthday celebration
All area youth horse enthusiasts are invited to celebrate Ellis County Equine Association’s 25th Birthday and Anniversary at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at the Flying Dollar Ranch in Italy. Activities include cake, ice cream and a horseshoe tournament to celebrate the club’s birthday. After the festivities, the youth will elect officers for 2009 and come up with a wish list of activities for the year. ECEA is dedicated to the promotion and education of all horse breeds and horse enthusiasts surrounding Ellis County. Activities include shows, clinics, field trips, trail rides and more. Ennis Public Theatre is seeking a female actress age 18-38 to portray “Lola” in “Damn Yankees. Must also sing and dance.
The show will run Fridays and Saturdays from April 17-May 10.

Trail Blazer’s Showcase
The Trail Blazer’s Showcase, featuring the music of Melinda, Lonna, Jodi, Joy, Ricky, Doc and J.D. will kick-off at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Women’s Building, 407 West Jefferson St. in Waxahachie.
The event is open to the public for free dmission, although donations will be accepted.
