WHS music theater to present ‘Wizard of Oz’
The Waxahachie Music Theater Department will present the family-oriented adaptation of the classic MGM musical during four performances at the WHS Fine Arts Center Jan. 23-24.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students and seniors. The ticket booth will open one hour before each production. Show times are scheduled for 7 p.m. Jan. 23 and 24, with a special matinee performance at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24.

Brian Waters Night tonight
Waxahachie ISD will honor NFL star and 1995 WHS grad tonight during the Indians’ basketball game.
The tribute will take place about 7:30 p.m. between the boys and the girls games being held in the George W. Solis gymnasium. The community is encourage to attend and help honor the Waxahachie native.
“We are extremely excited about honoring Brian and we are thrilled he will be in attendance at the basketball game on Friday night,” said David Nix, WHS principal.
“We want to encourage all of Brian’s former teachers, coaches, classmates and friends to attend the game this Friday,” Nix said. “This community is fortunate to have someone like Brian who believes in community service and helping others.”

Ten55 singing at Hastings
The local band, Ten55, known for a repertoire of a wide range of musical styles, will perform from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hastings Books, Music and Videos, 791 U.S. Highway 77 North.
Comprised of local peace officers, the group, founded by Jason Westmoreland five years ago, performs a variety of music, including Texas country, classic and traditional country and rock.
“We do a little bit of everything,” said Luis Valladares, sound engineer and road manager for the group. “We like to do a little ZZ Top, Metallica and others.”

“Fireproof”, a big screen feature starring Kirk Cameron, is showing again at Farley Street Baptist Church at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23.
“Due to popular demand, we are having a second showing of the movie,” a church spokesman said. “We had such tremendous response to the movie a couple of weeks ago.”
Bowl for Kids Sake
Bowl for Kids Sake, in support of the children served by Big Brothers and Big Sisters throughout Ellis County, will hold a fundraising event at 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at Ennis All Star Bowl, 2303 W. Ennis Avenue.
All of the dollars raised go to support the children in the city of the bowing team.
“Get a team of five to six of your employees, family or friends together to bowl. You don’t have to be a good bowler to participate, but teams must register,” a spokesman said.
Each participant who collects a minimum of $100 in donations receives two free games of bowling, food/drink, T-shirt, souvenir team photo, door prizes and much more – all in support of the children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Coalition of Senior Partners to meet
The Coalition of Senior Partners will meet at 5 p.m. Jan. 24, at First Baptist Church. The program will be presented by women who attended the 2008 Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

Knights of Columbus annual free throw contest will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 25, at the Waxahachie YMCA. There is no charge for participation; the competition is open to children ages 10-14.
