The Ellis County SPCA will hold a volunteer orientation at noon Saturday, March 19, at its facility, 2570 Farm-to-Market 878, Waxahachie.

Volunteer applications are available online or at the shelter during the meeting.

Orientations are held monthly to help new volunteers get started and to communicate new opportunities to current volunteers.

“It is not mandatory to attend a meeting before you volunteer, but it is extremely helpful if you can make it and it’s a good opportunity for you to get your name tag ordered if you haven’t already,” a spokesman said. “As we grow, we have many new and exciting programs being added and we look forward to seeing you at an upcoming meeting.”

The meetings are posted on the website at

Volunteers must be 18 years old to volunteer at the shelter unless they are with a parent or guardian but we there are special opportunities for high school aged kids to help with as long as their parents approve. Parents/guardians also need signed volunteer applications on file when volunteering with younger children.
