Shown are 16 students from Shackelford Elementary School, representing several different grades, who sold cookbooks for $2 and, in two weeks, making $600. The group then went to Walmart on Wednesday. “They bought groceries and hygiene products and took it to the Waxahachie Salvation Army,” said Lisa Young, whose son, Clayton, a fourth-grader, was a participant in the program. Local merchants, including FedEx, helped in the preparation of the books, Clayton said, saying, “We had a lot of fun doing this and got to go to McDonald’s after we were finished.”
