Southwestern Assemblies of God University business department will offer a management information systems specialization beginning this fall.
The specialization is intended to help business studentsí problem solving skills through effective utilization of information technology and information systems.
IT and IS are used in decision-making to make businesses more competitive, efficient and effective in the marketplace. Increasing technological dependence prompted the creation of an MIS specialization for SAGUís business program. The specialization will cover basic management systems, theories and practices and will also delve into emerging technology and IT security and privacy issues.
SAGU program manager for marketing and management information systems John Jemison explained the benefits of the new program.
ďThe MIS program is designed to provide the business student an awareness, understanding and confidence in information systems as applied in the management of businesses today and tomorrow,Ē he said.
Jemison is a retired major of the U.S. Air Force Medical Service Corps, where he served as an administrator in three military medical facilities and was staff for the Air Force surgeon general. He became a corporate operations and information systems consultant after military retirement and soon became the director of risk management, safety and compliance at Nevada Cancer Institute. He is now a full-time assistant professor at SAGU with more than 30 years of professional experience and 22 years of teaching experience.
Jemison earned a Master of Science in systems management at the University of Southern California. He continues his post-graduate work in operations and management with a concentration in information technology management at Capella University in Minneapolis, Minn. He is on schedule to complete his doctorate next summer.
