SAN ANTONIO – Officials for the Miss Teen Texas International Pageant recently announced that Ashlee L. Gilbert of Rio Vista, has been named Miss Teen Johnson County International 2009.
Gilbert will represent the greater Johnson County area at the 2009 Miss Teen Texas International Pageant in San Antonio March 22. According to a press release, she will be competing for more than $15,000 in cash and prizes and the chance to proceed to the Miss Teen International Competition in July.
Gilbert is the 17-year-old daughter of Joe and Gina Gilbert of Rio Vista. She has a sister, Haley of Rio Vista. She is a junior at Rio Vista High School where she is a member of the For National Honor Society, Thespian Society and Student Council. She is a varsity cheerleader and is involved in all activities of the school. She maintains a 4.025 grade-point average.
Ashlee volunteers with the PeeWee Football Organization in her home town where she teaches cheers to Pee Wee cheerleaders and helps work the concession stands for home football games. In her spare time, she loves reading, listening to music, cheerleading, shopping and spending time with her family and her boyfriend.
Gilbert won first runner up in the Johnson County Old Settlers Reunion Queens Contest in 2007 and 2008. She has been the recipient of several academic awards including Presidents Excellence Award, “A” honor roll, and reading and languages arts awards. He ha performed in school plays since she was in the sixth grade and has won awards from the UIL for her performances.
Included in requirements for being Miss Teen Johnson County are attending and participating in different county functions and volunteering throughout her community. Her pageant platform she will be speaking on is education reform.
According to the press release, the Miss Teen International Pageant system recognizes young women for their ambition, accomplishments and desire to make a difference in their communities. Throughout her year, the new Miss Teen Johnson County will not only compete for the state crown, but she will also be available to make appearances, attend special presentations and assist with civic and non-profit oriented projects.
“I want to let each of you know that I am very excited and proud to be able to say that I represented Johnson County and am proud to call it my home,” Gilbert said.
