Renowned vocalists and bands, including Bart Crow Band, Joey Green Band, Tres Medlock Band, Eleven Hundred Springs and Clint Levi will be featured at the 7th annual Music for Mika benefit concert to be held on Monty’s Hill, 6521 Old Buena Vista Road, Maypearl.

The gate will open at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. Barbecue and corn on the cob will be on sale, and a washer tournament is included in the schedule of events.

According to a Facebook post showcasing the event, Music for Mika was established in 2005 after the tragic death of 6-month-old Mika Michele Terry who was unknowingly left in a hot car and passed away June 23, 2005.

The primary beneficiary is KidsAndCars.org, a national non-profit organization dedicated to preventing injury and death to children and around cars. Its mission is to assure no child dies or is injured in non-traffic, motor vehicle related (incidents). The organization’s work includes data collection, education, raising public awareness, working for safety regulations, legislation and survivor advocacy. The non-traffic incidents the organization works to prevent includes back-overs, front-overs, hyperthermia, (heat stroke) power window strangulation and vehicles inadvertently knocked into gear.

“This may very possibly be the final concert to be held here,” said Mike Terry, the father of Mika. “We’re not for sure on this, but if it is, we will still continue to donate to Kids.org. We would love to see over 2,000 people to attend this years’s event.”

Donations will be received at the gate. Each family, group or individuals are to bring their own coolers, and no glass bottles or containers are allowed. No one under age 21 will be admitted without parents.
